Christian Dating Advice For Us All

Taking Time To Worship Together

This past weekend, my fiancee and I took our youth group to an event called Acquire the Fire. We got lost a few times (we had to take four cars through a city), but other than that, it was a great time! It was a great opportunity for me to get ”on fire” for Christ and focus on Him! One of the things that I took away from the weekend was how great it is to worship God with your boyfriend/girlfriend.

During the event there was one band leading worship for the entire audience. It was awesome to see SO many people (around 5000) singing praise to God. As my youth group was singing to their Creator, I remember looking over at my fiancee and thinking how blessed we were.

When we first started dating, one of the things my fiancee said to me was: “I’ll know I am ready to get married when I feel that the two of us worship God together.” It’s such a huge thing to feel as if the two of you are glorifying God in your relationship! Ask yourself if the two of you need to change something you are doing so you can keep Christ at the center of your relationship.

Some of you might be thinking that “I don’t go to the same church/youth group as them” or “I don’t like to sing” or even that “I don’t have the same style of worship as them.” All of these are concerns that need to be taken into account when choosing a boyfriend or girlfriend. I once dated a girl who had such a different way of worship than me that one of the reasons we broke up was because of that!

The two of you need to take time out of your day to worship the God who created both of you. You may think you are too busy, but when you look at what God has done in your life, He deserves at least 15 minutes of your day. If you’re reading this and you are breathing, have a roof over your head, or have a full stomach, thank God for what He has given you. As a couple, you need to worship God and thank Him for the relationship you have!
