Congratulations! Getting engaged is a big deal and is definitely something worth celebrating. I remember that when my fiancee and I got engaged we were just overwhelmed with the different emotions going on! I distinctively remember sitting in a restaurant thinking to myself “is this really happening?!” Chances are it’ll take you awhile to let the “engaged life feeling” to set in.
Hopefully you have a romantic engagement story that you want to tell everyone (if you don’t have one, that’s ok!). Telling everyone is one of the best parts of getting engaged but it should be done in a way that you get to tell them - not someone else!
I see it all the time. People get engaged, put it up on Facebook after 10 minutes and then the whole world knows. What’s the fun in that?! My first tip of advice is not to put “engaged” on MySpace of Facebook until you’ve told everyone. My fiancee and I loved watching (and listening) to our friends and family when we told them!
My second tip of advice is to tell your family first. They are the ones that the decision impacts most (other than the two of you…) so they should be top on your list. After you let your family know, then it’s time to get out and spread the word to everyone!
Now there are a lot of different things that you can do once you get engaged. Telling everyone is definitely one of the best parts, but that’s not the only part. After all the excitement is contained to a normal level once again, it’s time to start planning that wedding! In future articles, I’ll talk about the best ways to go about that!
